A "cache hit" rendered in PHP is still a PHP process that costs CPU; the clean plugin-to-nginx integration eliminates that round trip entirely.
Which plugin fits best depends on your site profile. We regularly evaluate new versions and alternatives and look specifically at how they affect Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, Interaction to Next Paint. A plugin that halves TTFB but breaks layout via bad critical-CSS optimisation is not an improvement.
